Job Position Description
Laborer Requirements for this position include the candidate being in excellent physical condition, sufficient to effectively perform ten to twelve hours of rigorous physical activity six days per week.

Duties include, hand shoveling, hand raking, operation of power saws, jumping jacks, plate tampers, sledge hammer, jack hammer and cut off saws. Laborers also load and unload straw trailers, distribute straw, perform hand seeding, liming and fertilizing activities. Laborers also execute a wide variety of jobsite cleanup activities to include drop inlet cleaning and silt fence removal.

Operator Requirements for the position of heavy equipment operator include knowledge of the pre-operating checks that must be performed prior to starting the machine. Additionally, the operator candidate must demonstrate an ability to effectively and efficiently operate the machine via the hand and foot controls on a variety of basic heavy equipment pieces to include: excavators, dozers, pans, tracked front-end loaders, rubber tire loaders, compactors, rollers and rubber tire backhoes.

An operator should also be able to read field stakes and properly interpret where his machine needs to cut and where it needs to fill. Operators must also have a complete understanding of how to operate machines safely as well as a complete understanding of our safety regulations. Operator should be able to check grades using a lock and level and ruler.

Project Manager Project managers serve as the liaison between our company and its clients. As such, a project manager must have exceptional written and verbal communications skills as a well as a highly developed sense of attention to detail. Project managers candidates must be extremely well organized, and have the ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate our work with that of our client and the other subcontractors.

The project manager is responsible for billing projects on a monthly basis, negotiating all change orders requests and maintaining a properly-documented job file. The project manager must also meet the daily needs of the project’s field crews by coordinating those needs with the Vice President of field operations. The project manager will represent the company at all project meetings. Project managers must possess fluency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Estimator An estimator candidate must be able to perform computerized quantity estimates using our “Pay Dirt” estimating system. Additionally, the estimator candidate should be able to solicit and evaluate prices from suppliers and subcontractors and combine these with his own in-house estimate to arrive at a total site preparation package bid.

Estimator candidates must be able to compile a scope letter to accompany each bid. Estimator candidates will also work with and through the Chief Estimator to negotiate bids as well as conduct value engineering and budget pricing exercises for the client. Estimator candidates will work closely with their project manager to estimate and price change order requests. Estimator candidates must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Surveyor Surveyor candidates must have a minimum of five years field survey experience with an emphasis on commercial site construction layout and an ability to conduct the attendant mathematical calculations.

Surveyor candidates must be familiar with the organization and management of individual survey parties and be able to pre-schedule and integrate the work of multiple crews to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the required layout stakes to each field crew to keep the work moving forward. Surveyor candidates should possess knowledge of “Total Station” technology and an understanding of the principles of GPS technology as it applies to commercial layout work.

Truck Driver Truck driver candidates must possess at least a valid Class B Commonwealth of Virginia commercial drivers license, (CDL) a valid state of Virginia Health Card, and be able to produce a Department of Motor Vehicle driving record. Driving records must be free of DUI and careless and reckless citations. We require driver candidates to have a minimum of one-year accident-free CDL experience.

Driver candidates must be able to understand and execute verbal and written instructions. Driver candidates will have to pass actual test drives with one of our current drivers to assess the candidates ability to control the vehicle and to drive the vehicle safely while remaining in compliance with all traffic regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Mechanic Mechanic candidates must possess prior experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, or heavy equipment. They must have basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, fuel injection systems, transmissions, diesel motors, and electrical systems.

Mechanic candidates must be able to read and interpret parts and service manuals and be able to translate that data into a “breakdown diagnosis” and “solution”. Mechanic candidates must be able to effectively explain a mechanical malfunction to a factory-trained technician at the dealership or factory level. Mechanics must have their own basic set of tools and possess a clean driving record.
